Originally inspired by the 1HourANight Facebook group, I resolve to do some hobby (not necessarily an hour) each day (not necessarily at night). Each day, I will post a photograph of what I accomplished. It might not be much, but it will be something.
Finishing out the Sisters of Battle from the first wave (or, the infantry at least). Thanks to a few swaps, I managed to get all the infantry complete ... and even shot a short video highlighting some conversions I did.
The new plastic Sisters arrived and I started kitbashing them up, and also assembled the infantry portion of the full Minor Order (6x units of 10 Sisters, 3x units each of Celestians, Dominions and Retributors). Not everything is shown in the video below - I still have about 10 or so models to kitbash.
No, I didn't start a Slaanesh army! But, unknown to me, my cat got out on Monday night - we didn't realize until Tuesday. I was a wreck looking for her for two days, but she came home on Wednesday evening no worse for wear (probably with adventures to tell, but I don't speak Felinid . . . .)
So, no hobby at all. But my cat is home and that is all that matters to me.
. . . it was clearly time to take stock of my Sisters of Battle collection and look at the Minor Order structure I'd come up with and see how many models I needed to buy to fulfill my promise to build a full Minor Order.
I'd already set the number of Seraphim & Zephyrim at 30, made 15 unique metal ones and had the monopose plastics from the starter kit, so I knew I would need to buy 10 of the new plastics (probably two boxes). I'd also guestimated the size of the Order at 200 Sisters - that seemed reasonable for a very-minor Minor Order (not even really an Order . . . ) and come up with a basic structure.
Characters, bikers, vehicles etc. would wait because the first wave is the infantry so how many would I need to complete it? I laid out all my Sisters and counted them - I counted painted ones, partially painted ones, and assembled & based ones (I have more sitting ready to be cleaned up and glued, but I didn't count them).
Bottom line; to build the infantry core I designed (6 squads of 10x Battle Sisters, 3 squads of 6x Celestians, 3 squads of 6x Retributors, and 3 squads of 6x Dominions) I need only 21 models! (5 Sisters Superior, 11 Sisters with Simulacra Imperialis, 2 storm bolters and 3 flamers).
I was actually a little surprised and even disappointed; I didn't really need any of the new models! My plan to get everything I'd need to complete the Order was either really easy (I could probably buy just a single box of basic Sisters and use metals I already had!) or really hard (how would I get so many Simulacra when there are only two in each box?)
So, I thought about it - and decided I'll probably get a couple of boxes of each of the Retributors and basic Sisters and have some fun converting them, and then see where we go from there.
The Order might very well have to expand for the Indomitus Crusade. If I made it 12 units of basic Sisters and 6 each of the specialists . . . .
My players, it seems, cannot throw dice without having them hit models, go on the floor, get in the rafters . . . I always wondered why people build dice towers (because I can roll dice without it being nightmare) but now I know.
I wanted to use a broken holy water font to represent a large statue of Sanguinius, as well as have the model be a functional building. The initial construction was frankly bad - a real hack-job of crafting (poor measurements, cut wrong etc.) but I think I saved it with some detailing.
New year, new resolution, same old game but new rules. It's Wednesday, and that means gaming - but not using the RPG rules although it was the same setting. The game has got to the point where there is a military campaign to take back the 'Dust Zone - and that is well-represented by some 40K games! So, I busted out the models and introduced people to 40K, using various characters to represent their PCs. Because it was really an RPG rather than a wargame, I came up with special rules, fudged the dice rolls and gave them special bonuses so it was a "narrative" driven game (co-operative to tell a cool story rather than to win or lose). Everyone seemed to enjoy it, and they recovered the Tyrant of Blueflame's Chaos power cell which he was going to use to corrupt Ophelia VII!
