December 24th 2022: Snipers and Statues

A day spent mostly tidying up and sorting things out; but when I found pieces for a particular project that could be finished I finished it.

Some statues of the Imperial Fist heroes of the Horus Heresy - to be used in a scenery piece.

Chevaliers d'Outremer snipers with T'au weapons.

December 21st 2022: Nurgle Temple

The Nurgle facade got a coating of brown acrylic, black poster paint, PVA, water and alcohol, all slathered all over. Looking appropriately dirty!

December 11th to 19th 2022: Khorne Temple

A little bit each day, and it is done! Maybe some touchups needed, and the base texture needs applying... but I don't know what I want to do for it.

Dice Tower: 4 & 5 January 2020

My players, it seems, cannot throw dice without having them hit models, go on the floor, get in the rafters . . . I always wondered why people build dice towers (because I can roll dice without it being nightmare) but now I know.

I wanted to use a broken holy water font to represent a large statue of Sanguinius, as well as have the model be a functional building. The initial construction was frankly bad - a real hack-job of crafting (poor measurements, cut wrong etc.) but I think I saved it with some detailing.

Pulled this kit out and did some work on it, all part of my resolution to get stuff off my desk!

Cathedra, Cardinal and Reliquary: 12 to 15 October 2019

When I saw the Adeptus Titanicus scenery kits, I realized they could be used to make great little building details - many Catholic altars look like scaled-down cathedrals, so it seemed appropriate to use that in 40K. I used pieces of the kit to add details to my Cathedra tank, and created a large central reliquary (to house the bones of Saint Laertes of Ophelia VII). The idea is that this reliquary can be mounted (using magnets) on the front of the Cathedra tank, on the back of the multi-legged Cardinal Griffin or as the central element of an altar / reliquary I will create from the Adeptus Titanicus kits and use as scenery.

It's all crazy and out of scale - but isn't that part of 40K?

Arbitratorum: 5 & 6 October 2019

Although I am running out of superglue (annoying!) I did some more work on the Arbitratorum from Kromlech.

808-RO55 Shield Generator: 29 September - 4 October 2019

A crazy idea I had after getting a Bob Ross chia pet for Christmas - I knew I had to make some sort of scenery piece from it. In coming up with ideas for the RPG, I thought of a scenario where a shield generator would be defended and / or attacked (it might be both) and so I needed a shield generator. As 40K is all about the crazy, I made the Bob Ross statue into a shield generator using various found objects and some tiny disco balls I bought from the dollar store.

I also spent some time writing a (somewhat humorous) background for the generator on my World Anvil page.

Temple of Chaos Undivided (Slaanesh Facade): 27 September 2019

I cut out and assembled the Slaanesh facade of the Temple of Chaos Undivided. The basic structure is the same as for the Khorne and Nurgle ones, except that I used 2" thick XPS foam for the sides as I scavenged some from the dumpster at work! The upper voids will be framed out with a heart-shaped piece of card - it was easier to cut a chunk out and rebuild the sides with foamcore than try to cut them out.

The main entrance at the bottom was cut to fit the Ghostly Summons Reaper figures, and the surface of the foam was carved to fit the back of them by using acetone and pressure. The other archways are just cut through a single layer of foam to the one underneath.

All the figures are Reaper Bones figures and will be painted as statues.

Chapel: 26 September 2019

Hobby ADHD it seems, but I got some basecoats on the Kromlech chapel and started painting some details - I wanted to make something brighter, hence the bold sunburst colors.

Temple of Chaos Undivided (Khorne Facade): 23 & 24 September 2019

More work on the Khorne facade of the Chaos Temple - I added in a load of metal plates made from squares of thin cardboard, and also started adding rivets made from seed beads.
