Resolutions!: 31 December 2019

Last day of the year and with getting ready for a party in the evening I didn't get to do any hobby stuff - but I did make a resolution! I've been running a 40K RPG on Wednesdays and the game has been canceled more often than I or the players would like - most often because one person can't make it, and I've been running the game as "group of protagonists" rather than "ensemble".

A couple of players expressed frustration and considered dropping out. So, we all had a good discussion, serious words were said to some players, and I made a resolution - in 2020, every Wednesday night (unless I absolutely can't make it!) there will be some sort of game in my basement. It might just be me mashing models together and doing the voices, but there will be a game.

I have spoken. This is the way.

Arbitratorum: 29 December 2019

Pulled this kit out and did some work on it, all part of my resolution to get stuff off my desk!

Fellblade: Christmas 2019

Christmas is a time when things made and built are cake and soup and dinners and prayers for a happy and holy holiday! I didn't get much done, but I did manage to get some red on the wheels and assemble the running gear. I also worked on blocking out the bodywork to hold the sponsons - using a cardboard tube to get the curve right!

Fellblade Wheels: 23 December 2019

I sprayed some wheels! (I also did a bit of work with some minor parts of the hull and took a serious look at the turret, but that's not very visually interesting.)

Blood Angels Fellblade: 20 to 22 December 2019

I mentioned this before, but I happened on a YouTube video which showcased a very cool Bandai tank model which (I will admit) I became a bit obsessed with. I wanted to make a Fellblade from it (it has a sleek look more suited to an Astartes tank rather than anything else, as well as two cannons in the turret). I ordered one from eBay and bought some resin parts from Blood & Skulls. The tank arrived on the 20th with the resin parts coming a few days earlier. The above pictures show the gradual work on it.

The original model is clip-together in the main, and I took advantage of that by spraying components separately to get gunmetal and red in place. I decided that I'd like to paint this using similar techniques to those I have seen used on some military vehicles - a flat coat of paint with pinwashing and small details, rather than trying to shade and highlight a big tank. I've often painted tanks with simple, flat colors and a satin varnish coat (the reflective coat picks out the texture) and I thought this would be fairly quick and easy.

Assembly went well - I got the undercarriage assembled and base coated in the first evening, and I would have been able to snap it all together that night but I wanted to let the paint thoroughly dry. The upper hull is harder work - things have to be cut and rebuilt, but work went quickly enough. If I knuckle down and get it done, I should be able to apply the bright red paint to the hull in a day or two.

One thing which makes the build a little harder is the presence of clear pieces - I can't just assemble the whole thing and spray it. Nor can I apply the varnish once the clear pieces are in - they will frost. I think I will need to leave them until the end and / or mask them off - but this is a minor bother.

All in all, a fun and easy build and I think this will make a very large, dramatic tank for my Blood Angels!

Sanding Resin: 19 December 2019

Another day without pictures - I've really not done a lot each night, but I did manage to run some files and such across the Blood & Skulls Industries resin pieces for the Fellblade!

RPG: 18 December 2019

More fun adventures in the 'Dust Zone of Ophelia VII, wherein the joke character becomes increasingly serious as he realizes just how far the Sisters of Battle will go to expiate sin.

Funtime with Friends!: 17 December 2019

Last year (I think) I taught some friends to play 40K and introduced them to modelling and painting. One of them decided she liked the Sisters of Battle. I gave her a small army from spare models I had - but when I heard about the limited edition boxed set (not that limited, really, given the number on eBay at less than the MSRP . . . .) I knew I wanted to get her one. Tonight, she and her husband came over and assembled some models, ate quiche, and we played with my godson!

While she was assembling, I worked on the cool pieces from Blood & Skulls Industries which arrived today. I saw a really cool tank on YouTube - a Gundam model - which was perfect for a Fellblade conversion and I got obsessed with the idea of it. So, I ordered that kit from eBay and some B&S pieces to trick it out. The B&S order arrived today and I started cleaning them up, as well as fiddling about with some other pieces - sand on bases of models etc.

Sisters of Battle Rules: 12 & 13 December 2019

The various Sisters social media groups have been all about complaining there isn't a Palatine, jump-pack HQs, or options for the Canoness. So I wrote this.

Nothing! :( 9 & 10 December 2019

I have dishonored the clan. To be fair, I did have a work event on Monday and a friend in the hospital (all is well now) on Tuesday.

Sisters of Battle: 5 December 2019

I went through the metal Sisters of Battle I have in the big box of them - many are black with oxidization from the Simple Green and Pinesol, but they seem undamaged other than that. A good scrub and some cleaning up and I assembled a squad of them (seen here mixed in with the new plastics).

Seraphim: 4 December 2019

I want to have 30 Seraphim / Zephyrim in my army and I don't want to waste all the metal ones I have but neither do I want them to all look the same. So, I spent today making some conversions so each is unique (even if it is just a head-swap!)

Sisters of Battle: 30 November to 3 December 2019

The new Sisters of Battle boxed set arrived on the 30th and I started putting models together. As well as assembling the models in the set, I played about with some other models (using some extra heads to give variation). I don't have pictures for all of this because, well, they are factory-standard models aren't they and everyone is doing it :)
