Scenery: 31 October 2018

Some work to get scenery pieces complete - cutting out and texturing some floors for the Imperial Brutalist buildings I made a while ago, and casting some Hirst Arts Roman columns for my statue of the Emperor on the Golden Throne.

Gaming Boards: 30 October 2018

I pulled out the gaming boards and decided to finish them off. I decided to mask the last one completely, rather than painting by hand or partial masking.

Masking took a while, but seemed to work well. I suffered from the black undercoat "bleeding through" the white and making it an ice-blue, but a squirt of spray varnish and then a couple of coats of white fixed it. There was a fair bit of tidying up to do, but it looks good enough to game over.

I also touched up the other two boards (addressing the "ice-blue bleed" issue by touching up the white) and then decided to give them a coat of some varnish. I had a big tin of clear satin urethane in the basement, and slapped it on good. It takes 24 hours to dry, and I will probably need a coat of flat spray varnish to knock down the shine, but it will protect it nicely. I am happy with these - and I think they will look good with some scenery on them.

Sick! 28 and 29 October 2018

I was sick for two days and really didn't do anything at all - I was off work and spent a lot of time binge-watching the Acorn to Arabella YouTube channel. This inspired me to want to make some kind of boat, but other than that . . .

Bayonets and Saber: 27 October 2018

I added some bayonets, purity seals and an officer's saber to the Elucidian Starstriders to make them a little unique.

Captain Amelia: 25 October 2018

Maybe what I'm doing with her is a little clearer now :) The Elucidian Starstriders arrived today and I noticed that the legs of the assassin would work very well for what I wanted to do . . . which was use Reaper's Sasha Dubois to make (something inspired by) Captain Amelia from Treasure Planet. The choice of base miniature came from this blog post but I swapped out the head for that of a Basti mother from Crocodile Games and added a naval hat from the bits box. I'd have left it at that, accepting the lack of awesome over-the-knee boots, but then I saw the assassin (and didn't particularly want to use her as she appeared). So, a few snips and cuts and a bit of filing later, we have Captain Amelia with awesome over-the-knee boots. She still needs greenstuff to make a blouse for her, and a sextant is on order, but she is looking pretty good!

A couple of Reaper figures with minor conversion to represent a couple of NPCs from the 40K RPG I am running.

Probably silver..... : 21 to 23 October 2018

I did something on these days, but not much at all. It was probably trying to paint some silver on the Sisters of Battle, which I am rapidly coming to dislike . . . .

Sisters of Battle white trim: 16 October 2018

This trim is really tedious . . . and, TBH, I've been tired in the evenings so I haven't been wanting to do all that much.

Sisters: 9 October 2018

I painted the blue (highlight and shade, too!) on the Sisters (including painting over the existing blue on the part-painted vehicle - which was too-bright and wrong).

Sisters: 7 & 8 October 2018

I got the undercoat and some of the basic colors (a bit of the blue) down on the Sisters. I also pulled out an old vehicle that had been sitting incomplete for ten years or more and worked on it at the same time.

Sisters of Battle completed: 1 October 2018

I CAN HAS A HAT ALSO
I finished the "unit" (it's really just a collection of models, not a single unit) of Sisters of Battle. Noteworthy is the above conversion, a Sister wearing a Grey Knight helmet in a smug fashion.
