Imperial Cathedral: 31 August 2018

THE ROOF! THE ROOF! THE ROOF IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION! WE DON'T NEED NO WATER BECAUSE IT'S MADE OF FOAMCORE AND WILL GO SOGGY!

Imperial Cathedral: 30 August 2018

It does not look like much was done, but all of the "components" are now in place (decorative gargoyles, blocks to fill gaps, plaster castings etc.) for the front, rear and sides up to the roofline.

Sector Imperialis Building: 25 to 27 August 2018

I did something each day, but I can't be bothered to make multiple posts . . . :)

On the 25th, I bought the Basilicanum kit and assembled all the "parts" of it (the statues, individual wall panels etc.) - basically giving me a set of "bricks" to build something out of.

On the 26th, I assembled them into a building - it was inspired by the standard assembly, but I created a sort of balcony to add interest.

On the 27th, I used various bits to add a balcony wall.

Roleplaying: 24 August 2018

The player whose character was executed for blasphemy-murder last session (don't ask) got a new character; an astropath! He did not commit blasphemy-murder - which was considered a good thing.

Sector Imperialis Buildings: 21 to 23 August

Using the Sector Imperialis Sanctum set, I constructed an octagonal building and a small ruined piece. I bought the set to get the statues to put on my cathedral (it was easier to do this than getting them from bits scalpers) but I wanted to see if an octagonal structure could be built - and it can be! An hour or so each night saw these assembled and some basecoats from rattlecans down.

Imperial Cathedral: 20 August 2018

The part I was dreading - the sides. The front and back are pretty simple - they just butt up against the rest of it to assemble. But the side have to have the roof resting on them - and the roof isn't actually that easy to do because of the interaction between it, the walls, and the little decorative cappy things. I have come up with a plan to achieve this, however - and I shall be trying to make it work!

But one thing that needs to be done - and which I am dreading - is filling the gaps on the circular section. The edges of those pieces are pretty rough and there is some detail which needs rebuilding. I think I will just have to bite the bullet and sit down and do it . . .

Imperial Cathedral: 19 August 2018

I pretty much completed gluing pieces onto the facades (some more gargoyles are needed on the tops of the towers). Now they need gap filling and clean up - and roofs and bells on the front towers, of course - but these are looking almost complete.

Wedding: 18 August 2018

(Well, it is a ring . . .)

A wedding today (not mine; a family friend) and so no hobby work was done.

Imperial Cathedral: 17 August 2018

This is the second half of today's effort; the rear facade. I glued the central panel (which is made up of two ruined Shrine of the Aquila panels combined into a single whole one) into place and plugged holes with gargoyles.

Here is the front - all holes plugged and with the tippy-tops of the towers (minus the roofs) completed. I did not have enough roofline pieces to do them all, so I constructed some using PVC and styrene.

Imperial Cathedral: 15 to 16 August 2018

I've got to be better about taking pictures more frequently . . .

I started out by cutting out the lower panels of the facade window panels - when I assembled the model first, I i) didn't consider I would need more doors than that single one in the middle (seriously; how are millions of pilgrims supposed to get through that? and ii) didn't have enough Pegasus doorways. Since I bought another Pegasus kit to make my Thunderhawk I had a couple more.

Gluing them in place was no big deal . . .

. . . and so I started work on a mezzanine floor inside.

The Pegasus kits have slots to fit them together in various configurations - which leaves little holes on the columns. A couple of these I had to cover with plasticard to fill other gaps (the white vertical bars above) but for the others I just used the gargoyles, lights and blank plugs Pegasus thoughtfully provides for the purpose! This fills gaps and adds a nice level of detail to the piece.

Pleased with all this, I started work on the very tippy-tops of the towers (these will have bells in them). Unfortunately, this picture does not show the actual work I did on them today (the roofline) nor does it show the completion of the mezzanine floor, because I am a terrible cameraman.

Wee Little Robo Dogs: 14 August 2018

Lookit these little bastards; how cute are they?

So, I was at my FLGS buying some glue etc. and I saw a magazine with a free model on the front - these little robo dogs. They are from some steampunk Wild West game by Wayland. I just thought they were cool so I got the magazine despite the fact I'd promised myself no more models for a bit. Rather than have them sit about, I assembled them (with some spare Armiger weapons - the original weapons weren't very nice in my view).

I am not sure what I will use these for - perhaps support for my Judge Dredd inspired Arbites? In any case; there they are!

Imperial Cathedral: 11 to 13 August 2018

Did some more work on lantern; specifically, I started work on the dome that surmounts it and finished off the pillars and, erm, sticky-out-bits (technical term). When seen from above (as it is supposed to be seen) the Cathedral takes on the shape of the Ecclesiarchy symbol, with the lantern forming the spike-haloed skull in the center.

Roleplaying: 10 August 2018

You had to be there. After the session, Sub-Lieutenant Gregor wasn't. Although his skull was. Mounted on the shoulder guard of the Crusader and engraved with the word "HERETIC".

Next session they are going to get on with the adventure.

They are going to do this if it kills them. Them. Not the characters. Them.

Imperial Cathedral: 9 August 2018

I did some work on this evening, but not a huge amount and didn't take pictures - you'll have to wait for the next update to see them! :)

Imperial Cathedral: 5 to 8 August 2018

Not of all this work was done over these four days! In fact, very little was. I'd already - as detailed on my other blog - done a lot of work on the Cathedral. What I did this time was dig it out, dust it off, and stick it on bases (to give it solidity, but also to increase the size to 2'x4'). I also did some work on the lantern which will rise above the (as-yet-unmade) roof.

Work Interferes With Fun: 3 and 4 August 2018

Work happened - a conference on Friday and Saturday, so nothing was really done (I did a bit of work on Friday morning, but so minor it isn't worth mentioning).

Arch of Imperial Triumph: 2 August 2018

Using the "bump map" tool, Google Image Search, a printer and some PVA glue, I added bas relief panels to the sides of the arch's upper section.
