June 2022 Roundup!

Well, how did we do? What are the requirements?

Did I do something every day? I did not - I failed on the 24th. Dishonor!

Did I try a new thing? I did - airbrushing!

Did I participate in the challenge? I did - the Mortian Heavy Crawler was going to be for #ChonkyJune, but I did not complete it and instead finished Le Nain Rouge. But, I did lots on the Crawler and did finish something!

Did I not buy anything? I did not (not buy anything; double negative) - I bought a Kratos Heavy Tank because I wanted the gun (no, seriously) for the Crawler .... but, clearly, I have the model and I am even assembling it.

So, two out of four this month - not good, not terrible. I did sell a model, which helps with some sort of numbers I suppose... I am now halfway through the year, and I think a strong codification of intentions is needed for the second half! Watch this space tomorrow!

June 30th 2022: The "Sun King" Heavy IFV

I fell in love with the Kratos tank when I saw it and thought its sleek aesthetic was really suitable for Les Chevaliers d'Outremer (which use Primaris models but are pre-Cawl in the lore). But I could not leave well-enough alone, and so I am converting it into a kind of IFV (infantry fighting vehicle) ... although clearly massively over-armed!

June 28th & 29th 2022: Le Nain Rouge COMPLETE!

Bases always take a while to do, because they need to dry. But here it is - all done bar the varnish (which will have to wait, because the paint I used for the base takes ages to dry fully).

June 27th 2022: Le Nain Rouge

In an attempt to get something finished for #ChonkyJune I turned my attention to Le Nain Rouge and did some work on the final details needed to get it finished.

June 25th & 26th 2022: Leman Russ

A bit more work on the Russ - finishing it (or at least the chassis) off with some engine details.

June 24th 2022: NOTHING!

Alas! The first failed day of the year (although previous days have been fairly slow and ones after this were, too). Lots going on at work, and an emergency stay late and then an after-action debrief and . . .

No time for hobby! :(

June 22nd & 23rd 2022: Walker Weapon

So very little done.... I literally just assembled a single gun from the Kratos (one day) and glued a magnet into a piece of plastic (another day). But, at least something . . . !

June 21st 2022: Leman Russ

I am starting to hate this tank ... but what I hate more is not having enough time to paint!

June 20th 2022: Leman Russ

Man, I thought tanks were supposed to be pretty easy to paint... All the gold trim done, the dozer blade painted, and a lot of the metallics complete.

June 18th 2022: Leman Russ

Some more gold details, and also decals - including custom ones that are the crest of my old high school!

June 16th 2022: Leman Russ

Silver and a wash on some of the metal bits. Slow going, but it should come together pretty sharpish (hopefully!)

NEW THING: Airbrush!

Not a very comprehensive test of a new thing, but I did use the airbrush and get some blue paint on the tank. All in all, I am not displeased with it - it went down pretty smooth and there were no drips etc. The paint does seem to want to rub off - especially when a Speedpaint wash was applied over the top - but I don't know if that is the primer, the tank being dirty, the airbrush, the thinners, the Speedpaint . . .

Never mind. A good blue coat is down and I can easily touch it up. And I have learned and tried a new thing!

June 12th 2022: Warcrawler Continues

The warcrawler gets some blue - it's the school color!

June 11th 2022: Super Heavy Warcrawler

I gave the warcrawler an undercoat of black, a base of oxide red, and then various metallics (all from rattlecans). Then I painted in various details (first pic) and gave it a wash of black poster paint mixed with brown woodstain (second pic). It's a thing :)

June 10th 2022: Super Heavy Warcrawler

I completed the magnetization and assembly of the basic chassis. Lots of weapons and details to source, but for now it is ready for paint!

June 5th 2022: Mortian Super Heavy Warcrawler

So which one do we prefer? I mocked up the building I was planning to put on the back and it is huge. I am debating if it will work at all. But I did discover that if I cut a hole in the bottom it sits much lower and looks better (if not actually "good"). This would also let me make the building removable and give me the opportunity to make the walker into a vehicle without the building on the back (which given my slow painting progress will help me get something finished!)

The question is; what should I do with the upper section? Three options are given - from top to bottom; 1) use the command bridge and gun mount (with the Kratos melta gun) 2) use the gun mount like a pulpit for the commander (and a flatter mid piece) or 3) use the Kratos melta gun and the gun mount like a pulpit and a juice cap to make a turret.

I don't know if anyone reads this blog, but if you do, let me know! :)

June 4th 2022: Mortian Heavy Crawler

The Super Heavy Warcrawler continues - the basic chassis is assembled and a quick black prime applied so I can see holes, uneven spots, bits that need sanding or filling etc.

June 3rd 2022: Mortian Heavy Crawler

For #ChonkyJune I started assembling the Mortian Super Heavy Warcrawler, that is going to be the transport for the Peripateta of the Daughters of Verity's scholla.

June 1st 2022: Mortian Super Heavy Warcrawler

No picture of what I did because it was just sorting and cleaning, but I pulled out my Mortian Super Heavy Warcrawler and started sorting and cleaning the pieces and deciding how I was going to put it together. It is a lovely model and has a load of options on it ... I've already decided I want it to be the foundation of the Peripateta but do I want it to be permanently attached or have it optional so I can dismantle it? Maybe even make it sort of modular and magnetic?

Well, decisions-decisions abound I guess . . .
