As mentioned yesterday, I taught some coworkers the joy of 40K and two of them are interested in getting their own armies. One wants Sisters of Battle (because she is a glutton for punishment, I suppose) and spent some time with the
Bolter & Chainsword Sister of Battle Painter coming up with a color scheme. She decided on white armor (because she is
really a glutton for punishment).
She only has limited paints as she is starting out, so I gathered those paints together with
Duncan's excellent tutorial for white armor and I had an experiment. I think it worked out pretty well. Here is the recipe;
- Undercoat white
- Paint armor with "Glacier Blue" from Vallejo (this is a very light grey-blue with a lilac tinge - she has a bottle of this paint because I accidentally bought two!)
- Pin-wash with Army Painter "Strong Tone"
- Drybrush white (no edge-highlighting for me!)
- Two layers of "Blue Tone" on the cloth (letting them dry between each one)
- Paint gun black
- Paint details gold, medium blue, gunmetal (gun gets barrel and sights painted with edges drybrushed)
- Paint skin with a flesh paint
- Wash skin with "Flesh Wash"
- Paint lips with flesh with a dot of red mixed in
- Paint hair and leather medium brown
- Paint grenades green
- Wash leather, hair and grenades with "Strong Tone"
- Dot in eyes with "Strong Tone"
- Base (I just slapped on some green because the 1990s rule!)
I think it looks good (full disclosure; if I'd known how easy and good white armor could be, I'd likely have gone with white armor for my own army!) and it was quick and easy. And, more importantly, she liked it, too!
